As I sit down to write this post, I can’t help but think…are we really approaching the end of summer? I know people say this every summer but this summer went by way too quickly. I don’t know what the weather is like where you are right now but in Toronto it’s been more rainy and muggy than it has been sunny and beautiful. It hasn’t really felt like summer but yet, here we are at the end of July and August is literally just around the corner.

July was a good month although I can’t say I did anything significant or learned anything major about myself like I do most months. But, if I had to summarize the month, I would say that July was a month of rest and relationships. As I’ve mentioned in previous check-in posts, I have this habit of becoming completely consumed by what I’m working on and everything else gets neglected – especially sleep and healthy eating. I’ve really been trying my best to get better at balance and I would say that I did a pretty good job of that in July.

The thing I have been struggling with though is figuring out how to achieve rest and also keeping up with regular posts on Do Well Dress Well.

I didn’t write 2 posts each week like I normally do and although I’m happy I feel well-rested, I would be lying if I didn’t say I get disappointed with myself when I go a long time without writing. One thing I have tried to do for August is to spend an entire weekend writing drafts for a month’s worth of posts so that it’s a bit easier for me. I probably should have been getting into this habit a long time ago but the problem is that it takes me quite a long time to put together a post.

From brainstorming and researching topics, writing a draft, finishing the entire post, figuring out what pictures to add and then scheduling social media posts, it probably takes me about 2 hours to put together a post that I’m proud of. I’m very, very picky when it comes to my writing and also I never want to become someone that writes a two-sentence blogpost. Each post that I publish on here needs to have value – if not, it doesn’t go live on the site. I’m still perfecting my post writing process but it continues to get better and faster each month.

In July, I also had the opportunity to get back into modeling. Here’s a fun fact about me: I used to model when I was younger. I didn’t do it for a long time as it was hard to keep up with it while being a full-time high school student but I really, really enjoyed it. As I’ve shared before, I struggled a lot with my self-esteem when I was younger (I also had braces for a number of years) so being dressed up and in front of a camera really helped to boost my confidence. I did fashion shows, a commercial and a few print flyers and catalogues. I was maybe 14 or 15 when I stopped. But, one day in July, I randomly started to think about modeling again and how happy it made me. I started to explore the possibility of doing some part-time modeling and made a goal of getting back into it before the end of the year. Literally, the next morning, I received an email with the subject line “Modeling Opportunity”. My jaw actually dropped. Within a few weeks, I was able to model for my first gig in years! I hope to share some of the photos here soon.

Speaking your goals into existence is so important and something I continue to experience the power of each and everyday.

You can’t keep your dreams to yourself. If you want something, write it down and say it out loud. If it’s meant for you, it will happen. I’m now looking forward to more modeling opportunities in the months to come!

But, in addition to getting tons of rest and rediscovering my love for modeling, I also had the opportunity to meet up with 3 new women! I like to network as much as possible in the summer when the weather is good because I’ll be honest – I pretty much hibernate in the winter! All of the ladies that I met up were so friendly, genuine and hardworking and I’m really looking forward to the future opportunities to work together. I always feel so good after meeting new people and the meetups gave me that extra motivation to tackle the rest of my goals for 2017.

As we move into August, it’s going to be a busy one for me! I’m going to be starting a course that will be every weekend for 5 weeks and I’m looking forward to having new skills to add to my resume. The anniversary brunch for ideate is on August 20 and I’ve been having a lot of fun putting together the decor – we’re going for a tropical party theme! I also plan to use August to finalize my new consulting services, future events for ideate and of course, my coaching program for recent grads. I’m really determined to go into this last half of the year feeling happy, organized and well-rested. Achieving all three is a little difficult sometimes but I’m up for the challenge!
