Hi, I’m Chanèle McFarlane,
Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Do Well Dress Well.
Do Well Dress Well isn’t just my brand name, it’s my motto that I live and breathe each and every day.
But, let’s back up a bit.
In the early years of my life, I was as introverted as you can get. I was quite timid and shy and I felt much more comfortable sitting back and letting the “louder” people in the room take over. Don’t get me wrong, I still worked extremely hard and was successful academically but deep down, I wished I had the confidence level to match.
During the final year of university, I began to think about the life I wanted to live. Actually, I had a flashback to a conversation I had years ago with a high school classmate. We were signing each other’s yearbooks and they handed mine back to me while saying “I’ll always remember you as that small, quiet girl.” At the time, I didn’t really think much of it. After all, they were right. I was petite in size and I was extremely quiet.
But for some reason, 5 years after that conversation happened, it really started to bug me!
I didn’t want to be remembered as being quiet because truthfully, I did have a lot to say but I just didn’t have the confidence to express it out loud. I didn’t want to just start my career and work for years without making a name for myself. The ultimatum became clear – did I want to continue being known as “quiet” or did I want to start working on cultivating a personal brand that would allow me to stand out both online and in-person?
Thankfully, I went with the latter and my life has changed greatly ever since.
I began to build a unique personal brand that allowed me to make a name for myself. I started to network both locally and internationally to create a professional network that I can depend on. I decided to stop consuming the content created by others and now I am a creator and I’m working towards becoming an influential voice. I made short hair, statement necklaces and bright colours a part of my brand which I wear with confidence each and every day.
Yes, this introvert went from blending in to confidently standing out and it has created the opportunities, experiences and friendships that I used to dream about.
As I continue to see how being strategic about the clothes I wear, my personal brand, the quality of work I produce and the people I associate myself with create positive changes in my life, I have become committed to inspiring women to do the same.
My mission is to be a valuable resource for women who want to do better, dress better and be remarkable.
I’m extremely passionate about showing women how doing well in your career is tied to your personal style just as much as it is to the quality of work you produce. You have to do well and dress well in order to succeed both professionally and personally.
And of course, when you’re committed to doing well and dressing well, not only will you succeed but you’ll make a statement that people will never forget.
